About

Insurance that holds its line.

Sentinel Mutual is a mutual insurance company built to pay claims, not to please shareholders. This is our story.

Our story.

Founded in 1972, Sentinel Mutual began as a small mutual serving a single city. The principle was simple: pay claims fairly, pay them quickly, and treat the policyholder as the reason the company exists. That principle has not changed.

Today, the portfolio spans home, auto, travel, commercial property, liability, fleet, and group health cover. The mutual serves customers across the country through a network of agents and brokers, and a digital channel that handles quoting, claims, and policy servicing.

What we believe

Insurance is a promise. The promise only matters when something goes wrong. So we build the company around what happens at claim time: clear communication, fair assessment, and prompt payment.

How we are structured

Sentinel Mutual is a mutual, which means it is owned by its policyholders, not by shareholders. Profits stay in the business as reserves, which is why the reserve ratio has held above 200% for the last seven years.

Where we operate

The company operates in four cities: Northbridge, Southharbor, Westvale, and Eastfield. Agents in each city are listed on the Find an agent page.

What we stand for.

Fair claims

We pay what is owed, no less and no more. Adjusters are not paid to deny claims; they are paid to resolve them.

Strong reserves

Reserves well above what the regulator requires. The reserve ratio has been above 200% for seven years running.

People, not phone trees

A real person answers the claims hotline, 24/7. The customer portal is there when you want it, not when you don't.
